Over the years a lot has been said, written and created around Karangahape Rd, about Karangahape Rd and for Karangahape Rd.

Much of this activity happens under the radar, seen only by a small number of people. Being niche doesn’t make it any less valuable than the more visible activity however. The events, festivals and parties that are large affairs lie on the surface of a very deep tradition of making in all its forms.

K Road is alive with a diverse range of community arts activity, interactive and engaging performance-orientated creative expressions and design practices. These threads inspire artistic inquiry within the non-commercial context, and define alternative visions and reimagining to think differently, question the status quo and redefine cultural ecologies central to new business models that go beyond categorisation and construct.

One of the ongoing challenges presented by such a prolific precinct is the collation of the activity and artifacts that are produced and published. The role of this archive is to collect the online publications, articles, videos, stories, posts and other assorted material that addresses, informs or explores the cultural identity of Karangahape Road.

We are currently collecting and sorting a whole lot of material for the Archive and hope to get it uploaded very soon. If you have material that has a place here please get in touch.
